Lone Ranger Exhibit

A new exhibit is being installed in the Spindletop Tower exhibit gallery of the Armstrong Texas Ranger Research Center. It will feature archival and library artifacts from the collections never before exhibited. These will include posters, books, photographs, comic strips, cassette tapes, a computer game and ViewMaster slides (remember those?). The highlight of the exhibit will be a Lone Ranger Frontier Town toy set. Designed by the creator of The Lone Ranger, Fran Striker, it is his personal copy of the toy town. The majority of the items are from the Lone Ranger Collection generously donated from the Estate of Dolores Taylor, M.D. in 2009. Dr. Taylor was an avid Lone Ranger memorabilia collector who was a personal friend of actor Clayton Moore. Moore was made an honorary member of the TRHFM board before his passing. The exhibit will be open for viewing from June 13. The Armstrong Research Center's hours are Monday-Friday 10 am- 4 pm. (Hours are subject to change dependent on staff availability).

The Big Shootout Screening

We will be hosting a screening for The Big Shootout, a documentary of the Texas V. Arkansas game of 1969, coined "the game of the century". The event will begin with an introduction by filmmaker and producer Mike Looney, and conclude with a Q&A with former players. Tickets are available for purchase online. A single ticket will cost $20, a pair will be $35 or take advantage of our Special Offer and purchase a pair of tickets and your own copy of the DVD for $50! In October of 1969 number 1 Texas and number 2 Arkansas went head to head in the first ever championship game that was arranged for television. President Nixon attended the game and the entire nation tuned in to watch a game like never before. Filmmaker and producer Mike Looney captures the essence of the game in his documentary with interviews of players, coaches and fans; footage of the game, and insight into how this game changed the face of football and the reason it is still talked about so many years later. The doors will open at 7 pm, and an introduction by Mike Looney will take place around 7:15 directly followed by the playing of the documentary. The Q&A with former players will follow the conclusion of the film around 9:30 pm.

Free food and entertainment will also be offered for attendees, as well as free health screenings. Many local organizations and businesses will be attending the event at both locations. Baylor Traditions Rally

The Traditions Rally is a free, community-wide celebration that offers an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming Baylor football season and get a look at the new stadium before the first game. The Thursday Traditions Rally will include a Baylor football pep rally with the Golden Wave Marching Band, spirit squads and members of the 2014 football team, American Idol winner Phillip Phillips in concert, and a fireworks show over the river to close out the celebration. The stadium will open at 5:30 p.m. The pep rally will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by Phillips taking the stage around 8:15 p.m. Free will be available at McLane Stadium, the Ferrell Center and the Dutton Avenue Parking Facility on the Baylor campus.

Texas Roots: The Art of Lee Herring

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum presents Texas Roots: The Art of Lee Herring from August 29th to January 11th. The exhibit features over 20 works of art by the 2007 State of Texas Artist. Mr. Herring is a master at capturing the American West. These works are available for purchase and a percentage of the sale price will be donated to the Texas Ranger Museum's Bicentennial Fund to renovate and expand the museum in preparation for the Texas Ranger Bicentennial in 2023. A full list of artworks and prices will be available at the website. You are invited! Artist Lee Herring and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum Board and Staff invite you to join us for an opening reception on Friday, August 29th from 6-7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served.
