Facing the Flames: The History of Waco's Fire Department

Come gain an exclusive perspective into the lives and history of the individuals who help keep our community safe! Facing the Flames will spotlight the exciting history of Waco's fire department, from its founding in 1873 to present day. Featuring antique uniforms and tools from area fire departments, this exhibit promises to be an enjoyable experience for both enthusiasts and curious citizens. The exhibition will be on display at the Fort House Museum, at 4th and Webster. Regular admission is $2-3. Visiting hours are Sundays 2:00 - 5:00. Special tours are welcome and can be arranged by calling 753-5166.

The Martin Museum of Art will host "Henry McArdle: Texas Painter, Patriot, and Baylor Professor" and "Roy Hanscom: Containers exhibitions from August 12-September 21. On Saturday, August 30 , Dr. Sam Ratcliffe, Head of Bywaters Special Collections, Hamon Arts Library at Southern Methodist University, will moderate a roundtable discussion with the exhibition lenders and John Wilson, Director, Texas Collection at Baylor University, from 3-4:30pm. There will be a reception with light refreshments to follow. The exhibition and events are free and open to the public. Texas Roots: The Art of Lee Herring

The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum presents Texas Roots: The Art of Lee Herring from August 29th to January 11th. The exhibit features over 20 works of art by the 2007 State of Texas Artist. Mr. Herring is a master at capturing the American West. These works are available for purchase and a percentage of the sale price will be donated to the Texas Ranger Museum's Bicentennial Fund to renovate and expand the museum in preparation for the Texas Ranger Bicentennial in 2023. A full list of artworks and prices will be available at the website. You are invited! Artist Lee Herring and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum Board and Staff invite you to join us for an opening reception on Friday, August 29th from 6-7:30 pm. Refreshments will be served.
